The poster brings together the image and recording of Adelheid Mbwaondjou, one of the rare female voices, which appear as recordings in colonial sound collections.

Adelheid Mbwaondjou was recorded in Omaruru in 1954, she sang of the consequences of the colonial war for her community in Otjiherero. The narrator of this sound piece is Renathe Meroro-Tjikundi, who has engaged with these recordings for many years. Our work has been generously funded by the Basler Afrika Bibliographien in Basel, Switzerland, where the recordings and photographs are held.
